Defence

Defence has top priority in Poland - both in politics and in peoples minds. The Polish government has decided to increase the defence budget to 2,5% of GDP by 2030. The money will be spent on a complete modernisation of the Polish defence and new equipment.

The defence budget for the financial year 2017-2018 is estimated at 2% of gross domestic product (GDP), which in real terms amounts to PLN 37.69 billion (DKK 65.77 billion). A substantial part of the budget will be invested in the modernization and procurement of new equipment in the financial year 2017-2018. The Ministry of Defence has announced that 27.7% or PLN 10.2 billion (DKK 18.07 billion) will be invested in the defence’s modernization plan. The modernization plan covers all protection, and therefore applies to the navy, the air force, the army, the specialized operations forces and the territorial defence.

With the recently published report on the Defence Strategic Concept, the Law and Justice Government plans to increase the defence budget gradually, so that the budget rises to 2.2% of GDP in 2022 and 2.5% of GDP by 2030.  In nominal terms the Polish defence budget will reach a level of around DKK 140 bn by 2030. 25% of this will be spent on new equipment. Needless to say, this creates good opportunities for Danish companies in Poland.
