On Wednesday, 18th November, Ambassador Steen Hommel is participating in the 4th Polish Standing Conference on the International Cooperation of Local Self-Governments entitled: “Poland – Nordic countries. Self-government dimension of international cooperation”. The event is hosted by the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship and enjoys the patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland “25 years of Self-Government”.

The event will be attended by representatives of Polish self-governments on district and regional levels, representatives of the government, embassies of Nordic countries, as well as representatives of business and experts from Poland and abroad.

The conference, initiated by the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, is organized annually - each time in a different region of Poland. It is an important forum for exchanging ideas and best practices in the field of international cooperation between Polish self-governments and government administration. Each edition of the event brings together several hundred participants, who discuss possible new challenges within this field.

This session of the Polish Standing Conference on the International Cooperation of Local Self-Governments will focus on two areas. The first one is to promote the idea of self-governance, with special stress put on self-governmental dimension of foreign policy and the success of Polish systemic transformation, due to the 25th anniversary of reestablishment of self-governments in Poland, celebrated in 2015. The second one is to stress the importance of the Polish-Nordic cooperation, due to, among others, the presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea States held by Poland between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016, as well as the fruitful and dynamically developing Polish cooperation with the Nordic countries.
