Iver Huitfeldt frigate in the Port of Gdynia

18.09.2018  11:36

On 15 September, the Danish frigate Iver Huitfeldt entered into the port of Gdynia. Iver Huitfeldt and two other units of the same class joined the Danish Navy in 2012 and 2013. Frigates of this type are especially valued for their low operating costs, versatility and ability to operate in difficult conditions.

The Iver Huitfeldt frigate was designed by the Danish company Odense Maritime Technology. The industrially tested standard has inspired the Arrowhead 140 project, a universal light frigate developed by Team 31. The Team 31 is led by the British company Babcock International. This consortium consists of the following firms: Thales Group, Harland & Wolff, BMT, OMT and Ferguson Marine. The construction of the Arrowhead 140 was announced in May 2018 and the frigate is to join the British Navy in the coming years.

On the occasion of the Danish frigate Iver Huitfeldt's entry into the port of Gdynia, the Royal Danish Embassy and the British Embassy have organised a meeting on board for representatives of various ministries, military units and the Polish shipbuilding industry. Thanks to the courtesy of the Frigate Commander, Mr. Bo Overgaard, the invited guests got acquainted with the technical concept of the vessel and had the opportunity to talk to the specialists responsible for its design and construction.
