Denmark has energy partnerships with 19 countries, including Poland. Together, these countries are responsible for 60% of global carbon dioxide production.
In 2022, at a time when energy security is on the lips of all of Europe, and alternative energy sources and the energy transition are topic number one on most government agendas; partnerships have become even more important.
As part of the Danish Climate Strategy, the Energy Governance Partnership has been established to strengthen the bonds between Denmark and other developed countries through energy cooperation.
As Poland does now, Denmark has undergone a huge energy transition. In Denmark’s case, the oil crisis of the 70s caused a drastic change in our energy system in our Scandinavian country. Today, Denmark has a high security of supply, over 99.9%, and as much as half of our energy comes from renewable energy sources. At the same time, the transformation is still ongoing. By 2030, the Danish government has planned to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 70% compared to 1990. To this end, Denmark is looking for new partners to learn from, while sharing our experiences about green transformation.
Poland’s ambitions under the "Energy Policy of Poland until 2040" from 2021 and the new targets being made in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine will require enormous effort to fulfil. Ensuring the ongoing transition remains just, clean and efficient will require the implementation of new ideas, some of which Denmark is experienced in.
Particularly in the area of clean heating, Denmark has experience and wish to build cooperation with Poland – so it will be a core area of the Polish-Danish partnership.
The Energy expert at the Royal Danish Embassy in Warsaw and our colleagues from the Danish Energy Agency look forward to deepening the energy dialogue between our two countries.
